The (Room) Keys to a Great Vacation

I love looking forward to my next vacation. Having your next trip (and maybe the one after that) planned and ready to go gives you something to look forward to on those days when things just aren't going your way, and unfortunately, with nothing on the books at this moment, it doesn't seem like things are going my way this Christmas.

So if I can't look forward to something, I'm going to look back on some of the great trips we've had in the past. I'm not a big souvenir person, but the one thing I do collect wherever we go are our room keys. Collecting the keys used to be a much bigger deal, before I found out that the hotels really don't care if you keep them. I can't tell you how many times my kids used to get blamed for "losing the key" so that I could get a replacement to take home with me. Sorry about that kids.

The keys are the perfect keepsake however, to help me remember trips. I can't look at the room key for the Plaza without remembering the joys of the check-in desk. The Paris room key of course takes me back to the Paris pool incident, and the Rio room key reminds me of their inability to count to two. The John Deere key is obviously meant to remind me of why I don't drink, as I have no idea what hotel that came from. You'd think I'd remember being at a tractor convention.

So today I'm just wishing that any of these places were back in my future plans. I don't like having no travels to look forward to heading into a holiday season. I mean, it's fun to reminisce, but this room key collection isn't going to grow itself.

This post is a part of Photo Friday at Delicious Baby and Friday Daydreamin at R We There Yet Mom. If you didn't get here from one of those sites, you should really go check them out. There's people there whose kids don't lose their room keys all the time!
